When Should I Order / Post My Wedding Invitations?

There are a few things to consider when trying to determine when you should order and post your invitations:

  1. Are you having a destination wedding with guests travelling and requiring flights / accommodation / visas / passports?

  2. Do you have International guests?

  3. Do you have interstate guests?

  4. Have you booked a popular time of year? (November - April)

  5. Do your guests have lots of engaged friends / family members who may also be getting married soon?

All of the above will influence when you post Invitations and whether or not it is a good idea to also send a Save the Date. Please note, the example below is a guide only, you will need to confirm when your caterer and venue require final numbers.

Please allow at least 8 weeks to receive your invitations, this includes, getting your quote, finalising your order, supplying your information & names, design & approving proofs, print, postage to you.

Example Post Timeline:

10 - 12 Months Before Wedding Day

  • Post Save the Dates to allow guests to book flights, accommodation etc

  • Consider posting Save the Dates 12+ months if you have an overseas destination wedding

6 - 8 Months Before Wedding Day

  • Post Invitations if not sending Save the Dates

  • Save the Dates are recommended if posting any earlier than this

4 - 6 Months Before Wedding Day

  • Post invitations if Save the Dates were sent

  • Post Invitations if your wedding is local for all guests

4 - 6 Weeks Before Wedding Day

  • RSVP Date

  • This gives you at least 2 weeks to chase responses / invite any last minute attendees

  • Time to get your guest list in order for menus and seating chart

2 Weeks Before Wedding Day

  • Final numbers due for caterer + venue *check this with your caterer and venue*

  • Do not make this date your RSVP Date
